When is it?
Playing for Pets 2024 is November 7 and 8, from 10 am to 6 pm each day.
What is it?
Playing for Pets is a 16-hour live-streamed event of Southern Illinois University students, faculty, and staff coming together to play video games for charity.
Who is it for?
For the 2024 event, we are taking donations for the St. Francis CARE located in Murphysboro, IL. They are a no kill shelter. You can find more information on them by visiting their website.
Who is organizing this?
It’s a joint event put on by the CMST 493: Video Games – Art, Culture, and History of a Medium class and School of Communication Studies.
Who is sponsoring this?
The event is sponsored by the School of Communication Studies and Saluki Games.
Who can participate?
The event is open to all current SIU students, faculty, and staff.
Are there restrictions on being on camera?
Anyone is allowed to participate on camera. We ask that you refrain from wearing clothing with offensive material and to try to keep language as family friendly as possible, though we understand tongues sometimes slip.
How can I give?
Closer to the day of the event we will post a link to donate. However, we are also accepting physical donations of food and toys for cats and dogs. Please choose food without artificial coloring.
What sort of games are being played?
A wide variety of games across different platforms are planned, but there is no exact schedule. We tend to focus more of multiplayer titles so more people can join in the fun. However, to give you a sampling of games planned to play:
